ME, MYSELF AND I / NAE OPEN 24 - New Arts Exchange Nottingham / 25 May - 26 Sept 2024 / Group Exhibition

In "Me, Myself, And I," Shingai is reimagined as The Immaculate Heart of Mary, challenging traditional religious depictions with a portrayal that addresses Christianity's historical role in oppression. This artwork not only offers a cultural reclamation but also prompts reflection on religious iconography's broader implications, celebrating resilience and diverse identities against a backdrop of historical white dominance in religious art

The artworks presented in this exhibition speak to contemporary conversations that align with NAE’s mission. They range from personal accounts of migration, what it means to belong within a society and responses to political and cultural viewpoints on race and gender identity.

UNTITLED / LE BAISER - Fine Art Photography Institute (FAPI) - Paris / 2025 / Group Exhibition

The image selected is from my Sensi project. The series explores complex themes surrounding black male sexuality and masculinity, scrutinizing the pervasive stereotypes and societal narratives perpetuated by mainstream media, including the pornographic industry.

The Project aims to provoke thought and encourage a deeper understanding of the blurred lines between love and fetishism, challenging conventional portrayals and inviting viewers to contemplate the complex interplay of these elements within the context of black male sexuality and masculinity. This exploration aligns well with the theme of expressing and experiencing love in its multifaceted forms.

THE HAWTHORNE EFFECT / Willesden art Gallery Mar - Apr

“The Hawthorne effect” (also referred to as the observer effect) is by definition a type of reactivity in which individuals modify an aspect of their behaviour in response to their awareness of being observed. The series presents a dynamic range of poses, moods, movements and expressions, emphasising exploration and play. These images are equally about the conscious and subconscious nature of being gazed at and posing in front of the camera.By setting random parameters to provoke a spontaneous reaction from the subject, the series becomes an exploration of an undefined aesthetic. .
